The most famous restaurant in Zemun, restaurant Saran began work on the ground floor of the family house under Gardos belonging to Arkadija Bokalic, who was an influential citizen of Zemun back in 1896. The first guests sat by the large furnace on a dirt floor and they were mostly fishermen from Danube and farmers who were waiting for a boat to take them to the gardens they were tending on the other side of the river. There is also another story that says that this restaurant was founded by a Zemun fisherman called Vicentije Vukotic. The original name of the tavern was "Zlatni saran".
