Back to: Bumper painting
The bumper is the most exposed part of the car and is the first to suffer during small contacts in the parking lot or due to the impact of stones on the road. Although scratches only seem like an aesthetic problem, they can detract from the overall appearance and value of your vehicle. Bumper painting is a precise process that, if done professionally, can completely eliminate traces of damage.
If the bumper of your car has damage and needs to be painted, on this page you can find a list of auto paint shops and service centers in Belgrade that can provide you with bumper painting services.
The main reason why the paint on amateur painted vehicles peels off quickly is skipping a key step, i.e. applying primer. Plastic, by its very nature, is a non-porous material to which classic colors are difficult to bond. The plastic primer (adhesive layer) serves as a "bridge" between the plastic surface and the paint layers. It chemically prepares the substrate, enabling maximum adhesion. Without a quality primer, even the most expensive varnish would very quickly separate from the substrate in the form of flakes under the pressure of water in the laundry or due to temperature changes.
Unlike metal car parts that are rigid, plastic bumpers are designed to be flexible. They curl slightly at low pressures and expand or contract in sun and frost. To prevent the paint from cracking during these micro-movements, an elasticizer is added to it. This additive makes the paint and varnish elastic, allowing them to follow the work of the plastic without creating tiny cracks that resemble a spider's web. The use of elastifier is a must in professional painting because it ensures that the bumper remains flawless even after slight vibrations or pressures.
Virtually any plastic bumper can be successfully painted, but the process depends on its initial texture. Bumpers that are pre-painted have a smooth surface and are easier to prepare. However, it is also possible to paint rough, textured black bumpers. This process is more demanding because it involves intensive sanding of the texture until the surface becomes completely flat, with the application of special "fillers" (fillers). With the right preparation, even the cheapest black bumper can be given a "high gloss" body color appearance, significantly rejuvenating the look of the entire car.
