Back to: Cleaning the laptop from dust
Due to their compact nature, laptops are extremely susceptible to dirt accumulation. The cooling system, which consists of small fans and radiators, constantly draws in air from the environment, and with it small particles of dust, pet hair and crumbs.
If your laptop needs dust cleaning, find a list of services in Belgrade on this page.
When a carpet-like layer of dust forms inside the enclosure, it prevents warm air from escaping. Then a phenomenon known as thermal throttling occurs - a protective mechanism of the processor that deliberately reduces its own speed so that it does not melt due to heat. Users notice it as sudden "chopping" in games, slow opening of programs or sudden shutdown of the device. Regular service, which involves physically removing dust from the cooler, allows the components to breathe and work at full capacity, which directly extends the life of your device.
Just blowing out the dust with compressed air is often not enough. Every professional service includes the replacement of the thermal paste. This paste is located between the processor and the heatsink and serves to efficiently transfer heat. Over time, the paste dries out, loses its properties and becomes an insulator instead of a conductor. Experts recommend that at least once a year the complete opening of the laptop is done, where the old paste will be carefully removed and a new, high-quality compound applied, which can reduce the operating temperature by more than 15 degrees.
Although interior cleaning is a job for a professional, there are steps you can take to reduce dust accumulation. Avoid working on soft surfaces such as beds, carpets or blankets, as they act as a dust magnet and block the suction holes on the bottom of the laptop. Using a solid base or stand with coolers significantly improves air circulation. Also, occasionally wiping the keyboard and external openings with a soft microfiber cloth will help keep your device cleaner for a longer period of time.
