Back to: Lowering the ceiling
This construction trend, which is carried out using plasterboard (the famous gypsum) and metal substructure, offers a perfect combination of aesthetics and practicality. With the help of suspended ceilings, you can completely transform the appearance of any room, hide all construction defects, old installations or uneven old ceilings, and at the same time open the door to creative lighting solutions that you have always dreamed of.
If you also need professional false ceilings or plastering work, on this page you can find a list of experienced craftsmen and companies in Belgrade.
In addition to looking ultra-modern and luxurious, suspended ceilings in a space solve several very important practical problems that property owners face every day.
Hiding installations: The space between the old ceiling and plasterboard is ideal for unnoticeably running power cables, heating pipes, ventilation or massive indoor air conditioning units.
Superior insulation: Mineral or stone wool must be installed inside the structure. In this way, you get excellent thermal insulation (retention of heat), but also sound insulation, which drastically reduces the noise from the floor above.
Ideally flat surfaces: Old ceilings in buildings are often wavy and full of cracks. Gypsum boards provide a perfectly flat surface ready for smoothing and plastering.
Fast and clean installation: Plaster works belong to the so-called "dry construction", which means that the installation is done quickly, without months of drying and with a minimum amount of construction debris.
What makes suspended ceilings so special is the possibility of installing various types of modern lighting. By combining different levels (cascades) and shapes, architects and plasterers create unique visual effects. The most popular is hidden lighting, where LED strips are placed in purpose-made internal channels (hidden). The light is then reflected from the upper surface, creating a warm, diffused and pleasant ambient light that visually elevates the room. In addition to the hidden strips, built-in LED recessed lights (like the popular "kodja" or "spot" lamps) and modern magnetic rails are installed in the suspended ceilings, which allow changing the position of the light as desired.
One of the biggest misconceptions is that plaster does not tolerate moisture and that suspended ceilings are not suitable for bathrooms and kitchens. Standard gypsum boards are gray in color and are used for living rooms and bedrooms. However, for rooms with a high level of humidity, special water-resistant (moisture-resistant) panels of green color are used, which have additives in their composition that prevent water absorption and the development of mold. Also, in places where there is a risk of high temperatures (e.g. around chimneys or in specific kitchens), fire-resistant red panels are installed, which provide an additional level of safety for your home
