The building was built by the merchant Nikola Spasic in 1889 and designed by the architect A. Costa Jovanovic as a two-story residential and commercial building. In 1961 the building was protected as a cultural monument and was established as a cultural heritage of great importance for the Republic of Serbia.

Today’s purpose of the building that housed shops on the ground floor and apartments on the upper level, is identical as in other modern buildings in Knez Mihailova Street. While the ground floor is used for multiple stores, each floor consists of one large apartment complex content and expression of the desire for representation of the middle class . These apartments were among the largest and developed in Belgrade at that time.
