Cooling towers

Cooling towers are the primary solution for removing excess heat, ensuring stable operation of machines, chillers and production lines. A properly designed and maintained cooling system not only extends the life of the equipment, but directly affects the reduction of operating costs and optimization of energy consumption.

On this page, find a list of companies that design and sell cooling towers in Belgrade.

What is a cooling tower and what is it for?

A cooling tower is a specialized device that serves as a powerful heat exchanger. Its basic function is to cool the hot water, which has taken heat from the industrial process or the air conditioning system, and return it back to the system. The process is based on the principle of evaporation: a small amount of water that evaporates in contact with air takes away heat from the remaining water mass, which significantly lowers its temperature. Without these systems, the operation of power plants, the chemical industry, and large shopping centers would be practically impossible due to the risk of overheating.

What is the difference between open and closed cooling towers?

The basic division of cooling systems is based on the method of contact between water and air. In open cooling towers, the water being cooled comes into direct contact with the outside air. They are more affordable and very efficient, but require rigorous water treatment due to exposure to environmental pollution. Closed cooling towers (or evaporative condensers) use a heat exchanger (tubes) through which process water flows, while cooling is done by spraying liquid over those tubes. The advantage of a closed system is that the process water remains clean and protected from contamination, which significantly reduces maintenance costs and the risk of corrosion within the plant itself.

How to recognize that the cooling tower is not working efficiently?

A drop in cooling system performance can lead to serious production downtime. The first sign of inefficiency is an elevated water temperature at the exit of the tower, even when the external conditions are not extreme. Also, visible scale and algae deposits on the fills indicate poor chemical treatment of the water, which directly reduces the heat exchange surface. If you notice increased electricity consumption by the fan or frequent activation of safety alarms on connected machines, it is time for a professional inspection and servicing of the system
