Copying key CODE

Losing or damaging a car key today is much more than a mechanical problem. Given that modern vehicles use advanced protection systems, copying KOD keys has become an indispensable service that requires expertise and modern technology. Timely duplication ensures that your car remains accessible at all times, while preserving the integrity of the factory security system.

If you need the service of copying KOD keys, on this page there is a list of car and electrical services and locksmiths in Belgrade that offer this service.

What is a "code key"?

Unlike ordinary keys, the "code key" hides a small electronic element known as a transponder chip in its plastic case. This chip communicates with the immobilizer (engine immobilizer) inside the car. When you insert the key into the lock or bring it into the cabin (with the Keyless system), the vehicle's computer reads a unique code from the chip. If the codes match, the engine starts. Without the correct code, even if the key physically matches the lock, the car cannot be started, which is the primary form of protection against unauthorized starting of the vehicle.

New key programming process

Making a duplicate involves two basic steps: precise cutting of the metal part of the key (sword) and, more importantly, programming the electronics. Programming is done by connecting specialized diagnostic devices to the OBD port of your car. In this way, the new key is "written" into the vehicle's memory as an authorized device. This process requires professional equipment, because incorrect programming can lead to computer blocking or temporary incapacitation of the vehicle, which is why it is important to entrust this work to proven experts.

What is "cloning" a key?

Cloning is a specific and often the fastest method of copying a key. Unlike programming a new key into the vehicle's computer, cloning involves reading the code from your existing key and copying it directly to the new chip. The result is two keys with an identical identity - the car recognizes them as one and the same key. This method is great because it doesn't require access to the vehicle itself in some cases and is often cheaper. However, cloning is not possible for all models, especially not for the latest generations with so-called "floating" codes.
