Holter ECG Belgrade

Back to: Holter ECG

Holter ECG

Unlike a standard ECG examination that records only the current state for a few seconds, Holter monitoring provides continuous insight into the electrical activity of the heart for 24 hours, 48 hours or even seven days. This approach is crucial for detecting disorders that occur occasionally and that are almost impossible to "catch" during an ordinary outpatient examination.

If you also need a Holter ECG, on this page you can find a list of offices and clinics that offer this service in Belgrade.

When is it necessary to install Holter monitoring?

Cardiologists most often recommend this type of diagnosis when the patient reports symptoms that indicate arrhythmias, but the findings of basic examinations are normal. Holter ECG is indispensable in discovering the cause of sudden dizziness, fainting (syncope) or the feeling of "skipping" and beating of the heart (palpitations). In addition, this device is used to monitor the effectiveness of introduced therapy for arrhythmia, to control the pacemaker, as well as to assess the risk after a previous myocardial infarction or in patients with heart failure.

What does the procedure for wearing the device look like?

The process itself is completely painless, safe and does not require special preparation or hospital stay. Self-adhesive electrodes are placed on the patient's chest connected to a small, portable digital device worn in a pouch around the waist or shoulder. During the wearing period, the patient continues with his usual daily activities, work and sleep. A key part of the examination is keeping a diary of activities and symptoms - the patient records the exact time when he felt discomfort, as well as what he was doing at that moment (eg physical exertion, stress, rest), which allows the doctor to connect the subjective feeling with the objective finding on the video.

Interpretation of results and further steps

After the end of the monitoring period, the device is removed, and the collected data is transferred to a computer system where the cardiologist analyzes them in detail. The result shows the average number of beats per minute, the maximum and minimum values of the heart rate, as well as the existence of any pauses in the heart's work or rhythm disturbances. Based on this data, the doctor gets a clear picture of whether the patient's symptoms are related to a cardiac problem or are of a different nature.
