Jovan Cvijic was a Serbian geographer and member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and rector of the University of Belgrade . He was a world-renowned scientist and is considered the founder of geography as a science in Serbia . Today, in his family house the Memorial Museum of Jovan Cvijić is located . The building was built in 1905 and in 1963 was declared a cultural monument. Thanks to Dragutin Inkiostra Medenjak who was considered a pioneer of national decorative arts , the house is unique in its interior decoration in national style based on Balkan folk elements . Today the house is a legacy of Jovan Cvijić containing 1476 items , including manuscripts, correspondence , notebooks , photographies , maps , paintings , personal items and more.
