The royal court is encompassed in the royal complex, along with the White palace, on an estate about 135ha large, on top of the tallest hill in Dedinje. Located nearby is also the royal chapel of St. Andrew, connected with the court by a row of pillars.

The construction of the palace had been instructed and funded by king Alexander I and it lasted for five years, from 1924-1929.
The designers of the project were Nicolai Krasnov, an academic from the royal academy and architect Zivojin Nikolic.

They created a very attractive villa made of white stone and constructed in a Serbian-Byzantine fashion. Additionally park terraces, a pavilion and a concert terrace were built around the palace.
