Back to: Wheel alignment
Wheel straightening is one of the most important vulcanization interventions that directly affects driving safety, vehicle stability and the longevity of all parts of the chassis. Roads full of potholes, high curbs and hidden bumps that, with just one careless crossing, can permanently deform even the highest quality alloy or steel wheel. Even minimal distortion, which is often not visible to the naked eye, creates micro-vibrations that eventually destroy bearings, shock absorbers and tires.
If you also need professional wheel alignment, on this page you can find a list of service and vulcanizing shops in Belgrade.
Many drivers drive for months with damaged rims, unaware that they are endangering safety and setting the stage for expensive car breakdowns. Pay attention to the following symptoms:
Vibrations on the steering wheel or seat: The most common sign, which generally increases at higher speeds (over 80 km/h).
Constant loss of tire pressure: When the edge of the rim is warped, the tire does not fit perfectly, leading to slight deflation.
Uneven tire wear: The inner or outer edge of the tread wears faster than the rest of the tire.
Strange noises and buzzing: A change in sound while driving that resembles a faulty wheel bearing.
Modern vulcanizing shops use specialized hydraulic wheel straightening machines that allow the wheel to return to a perfect geometric axis (zero) without damaging the material structure. With aluminum rims, the process requires special skill, because the place of deformation must be precisely heated so that the aluminum does not crack under hydraulic pressure. After successful straightening, the rim must go through a detailed check process on a balance machine to ensure that the wheel no longer has any lateral or vertical deviations.
In most cases, common dents from holes and warped edges (false) are quickly and routinely dealt with. However, if the rim has suffered a strong impact resulting in deep cracks on the spokes themselves or in the very heart of the rim, professional services will advise you to replace it for safety reasons. Safety on the road has no price, so welding large cracks in critical places is a risk that should not be taken.
