What is psychotherapy?
In the most literal sense “psychotherapy” can be translated as treatment of the mind. Psychotherapy has its origin in psychoanalysis – a form of oral therapy which was first developed by Sigmund Freud. It is based on developing a relationship with a trained professional in order to improve the overall mental and emotional state.
Why psychotherapy? It’s likely that you’ve had an encounter with a depressed friend or loved one at some point. You probably thought to yourself how they have no real reason to be sad and wondered how they can’t see it. Why isn’t it enough to just give them a self-help book and solve the issue?
