Back to: Winter tires
The arrival of the winter season brings with it specific challenges on the roads, including snow, ice and low temperatures. In these conditions, choosing the right winter tires becomes a key factor for driver safety and performance. Below you will find out how to choose good winter tires and when is the time to replace them?
How to choose good winter tires?
The first step in choosing winter tires is to understand the different types that the market offers. There are three basic ones, namely:
• studded tires - especially effective on ice
• lamellar tires - provide good grip on snow
• tires for mild winter conditions - in areas where the temperature does not fall below 7°.
Then it is important to pay attention to the speed index and the optimal tire size for your vehicle. The speed index indicates the maximum speed that the tire can handle, while the optimal size ensures proper grip and vehicle stability during winter driving conditions.
When is the best time to install winter tires?
The answer to this question depends on the region and specific weather conditions. According to the law of the Republic of Serbia, drivers must have winter tires on their vehicles in the period from November 1 to April 1, and tolerance exists if there is no retained snow on the roadway. In areas where snow and low temperatures are expected, installing winter tires is recommended when the temperature drops below 7° Celsius. Installing tires before the official arrival of winter increases safety and performance during the first cold days. Installing a complete set of winter tires, instead of installing only one axle, ensures balance, stability and better performance of the vehicle.
