Fog lights

Fog lights are additional lights on motor vehicles that are placed on the front and rear of the vehicle and serve to illuminate the road in conditions of reduced visibility.

When should fog lights be used?
Fog lights are meant to be turned on in these conditions and emit a wide beam of light. Otherwise, these lights are usually placed on the lower parts of the vehicle, most often on the vehicle's bumper, i.e. below the level of the main headlights, but they can also be located in the headlight itself. Fog lights are used when visibility on the road is reduced below 100 meters. Poor visibility usually occurs due to fog, snow, rain and other atmospheric conditions. The law also allows the use of fog lamps in cases where visibility is difficult due to dust or smoke. By the way, according to the letter of the law, rear fog lights may not be used when there is no fog on the road.

What color lights do fog lights have?
There are yellow and white fog lights on the market. It used to be thought that these lights should be yellow because they penetrate the denser atmosphere more easily. However, today it is considered that the color of fog lights is a matter of aesthetics, not functionality. The reason for this lies in the fact that the performance of fog lights depends on their placement and the spread of the light beam they emit, which is flatter and wider than in the case of ordinary headlights, so that the lighting is focused on the road and thrown up to 35 meters away. When it comes to the type of bulbs used in fog lights, standard halogens are usually used, but there are also vehicles with LED bulbs. However, the use of LED bulbs is, in some countries, restricted by law. If you need fog lights for your vehicle, on this page you can find a list of locations where you can get fog lights. It's up to you to choose the location that suits you best.
